Question about general fitness?

The best way to lose weight is to eat 5-6 small meals a day, but have the total calories add up to less than your basic maintainance level (2500 for a man, 2000 for a woman). Use protein as a meal base, eat less carbs. Run daily for about 30 minutes, and weight train 4 days a week, 45 minute sessions. This will make you much more toned, and you may not lose a stone (muscle weighs 2 times more than fat) but you will look much better.
